With homer barrage, A-Rod turns jeers to cheers at Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK (AP) -Alex Rodriguez walked into the Yankees clubhouse, changed from street clothes into uniform, grabbed a bat and hustled off to the batting cage, never taking off the white earphones playing his music. When he got back to his locker, he quickly moved into the trainer's room, then across the back of the clubhouse to the players' lounge.

He wanted to talk as little as possible about what he's doing on the field, one of the great starts in major league history.

Taping Movies In NYC Theaters To Be Crime

Secretly videotaping movies in a New York City theater for illegal sale on the street would be a misdemeanor, with penalties including possible jail time, under a bill approved by the City Council on Thursday.

Movie bootlegging cost major film studios more than $6 billion in 2005, according to the Motion Picture Association of America, an advocate of the motion picture, home video and television industries. The association says more than 90 percent of pirated films are generated by people who record them in theaters and then sell the duplications for mass reproduction or post them on the Internet, sometimes just hours after the movie has premiered.

Authorities say New York is a major source of film piracy, with more than 40 percent of movies that are ripped off and resold nationwide being generated in the city.

Construction is underway on architecture and planning firm Gran Kriegel Associates' latest project, a $56 million adaptive reuse conversion that will turn a former downtown Brooklyn courthouse into two 500-seat high schools. The project, overseen by the New York City School Construction Authority with M.A. Angeliades as the general contractor, is expected to be complete for the start of the 2008-2009 school year.

The 140,000-square-foot building, which dates to 1951, was originally built around a central core. Its interior will be completely gutted and reconfigured to accommodate the new schools, which include the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice and the Urban Assembly School of Math and Science for Young Women.
