GNYFA Takes Lead On Furniture Store Regulation In NYC
The Greater New York Home Furnishings Association reported that the New York City Council is considering a bill to license and regulate New York City furniture stores. Barbara Goldstein, GNYHFA executive director noted that, "The City Council, is doing its job by responding to some consumer complaints of non-delivery and non-refunded consumer deposits. However, the proposed regulations which would impose blanket licensing and a the fee would penalize the vast majority of good, honorable stores in the New York City area. This type of regulation would be difficult to implement and create all sorts of consequences. The Devil is in the details with this type of regulation. We saw that in an earlier failed effort to pass similar legislation just a few years ago." Ms.
Shooting near Central Park
Winnipeg police are looking for a man following a shooting Saturday night near Central Park that is believed to be gang-related. The victim is a 23-year-old man with two wounds to his upper body. He was listed in stable condition. Police say they were called to the scene around 11 p.m. after getting a report of gun shots. They found the victim in the area of the park at Carlton Street and Cumberland Avenue. The shooting happened about the same time as a stabbing in the same area, but police said they do not think the incidents were related. The suspect in the shooting is described only as being a black male in his late teens to early twenties. .
